I have some old canvas director chairs. I want to give them a makeover, any suggestions?
I use cushions but I would perhaps like to buy or make new backs for them, do you know where in London I could perhaps buy replacement backs or cheap canvas material?

Don't buy cheap canvas; it won't last, and the chair will feel unsafe to sit in. You're not using a lot of canvas, so buy good stuff. If you are feeling lazy, check out B&Q - they might have replacement backs. Dye the canvas to match a colour of the room you are using them in.
Clean the wood thoroughly, and use STAIN not varnish to get an even colour.
